Fundraising plays an important role in helping 1st Shifnal Scout Group provide the best possible experience for our young people. As a volunteer‑run group, we rely on a combination of termly subs, grants, and fundraising activities to keep our programme affordable, safe, and full of opportunities.
Every penny raised goes straight back into Scouting - supporting activities, equipment, building upkeep, and ensuring that all young people can take part, regardless of their circumstances.
Fundraising helps us to:
Keep subs as low as possible
Maintain and improve our equipment
Support families who may need financial help
Run camps, trips, and special activities
Look after the Scout & Guide HQ building
It also brings our community together and gives young people the chance to take part in events that build confidence and teamwork.
There are lots of simple ways families can support the group:
Take part in events
We run a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year - from raffles and cake sales to community events and sponsored challenges.
Volunteer your time
Helping at an event, running a stall, or offering a skill can make a big difference.
Spread the word
Sharing our events with friends, family, and the local community helps us reach more people.
Support online fundraising schemes
We use a number of online platforms to help raise money throughout the year. These make it easy for families, friends, and the wider community to support the group — often at no extra cost.
Easyfundraising
We are registered with Easyfundraising, which means you can raise money for the group simply by shopping online with your favourite retailers. It doesn’t cost you anything extra - the retailer donates a small percentage of your purchase to us.
It’s one of the simplest ways to support the group, and those small donations really add up over time.
JustGiving
For larger fundraising drives - such as major equipment purchases, building improvements, or special projects - we will set up a JustGiving page. This gives parents, carers, and supporters a simple, secure way to donate whatever they can.
These campaigns are always optional, but they make a huge difference when we’re working towards a big goal, and we’re always grateful for any support families are able to give.
If we’re running an active JustGiving campaign, you’ll find the link on this page or in our latest communications.
Funds raised help us provide:
Activity materials and craft supplies
Camping and outdoor equipment
Replacement tools and kit
Building maintenance and improvements
Subsidies for camps and events
Support for families who need financial assistance
We aim to be transparent about how funds are used, and we regularly update parents and carers on major purchases or improvements made possible through fundraising.
If you have fundraising ideas, experience, or simply enthusiasm, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you can help once a year or more regularly, every contribution helps us deliver a fantastic programme for our young people.
